HardOCP today leaked an NVIDIA GPU Roadmap Outline for 1H08, how true or how false this is we'll learn soon. But it's really weird to see HardOCP doing a thing like this. They are not the usual suspects when it comes to leaking out NDA information.

Details aren't quite hard and fast, but this is NVIDIA's top-of-the-line to-be, so it's never too early to start nerding out. HardOCP says the best way to think of the GeForce 9800 GX2 is a 8800 that's been shrunk down to 65nm and SLI'd onto a "single" card. The card is supposed to be at least 30% faster than a 8800 Ultra, and will apparently support Quad SLI. So:

  • 1GB frame buffer
  • Two PCBs
  • Two 65nm GPUs
  • 256 Stream Processors

That's the way HardOCP tells it, and who are we to argue?

In other news NVIDIA's newest mid-range processor, codenamed D9M, will make its official debut as the GeForce 9600 GT. Corporate guidance from NVIDIA lists the initial GeForce 9600 GT shipments come stock with a 650 MHz core clock and a 1625 MHz unified shader clock. Unlike the G84 core found on GeForce 8600 GT, D9M will feature a 256-bit memory bus interface. Coupled with a 900 MHz memory clock, NVIDIA calculates the memory bandwidth at 57.6 GB/s.

Samsung 128GB MLC SSD PDF Print E-mail
Written by Metal Ghost - Administrator

Two months ago, Samsung announced its new SATA II-based 64GB solid-state disk (SSD). The 64GB SSD promised read speeds of 120MB/sec and write speeds of 100MB/sec as Dailytech reported.

Today, Samsung is doubling the capacity of its latest SATA II SSD offering to 128GB. Instead of relying on single-level cell (SLC) NAND flash memory, the new 128GB offering makes use of multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash.

Unfortunately, performance dropped with the new 128 SSD -- read speeds are down to 100MB/sec while write speeds hover at 70MB/sec.

“Our SSD can be used by the widest range of corporate notebooks, particularly where additional storage is needed beyond what is typical in most business applications,” said Jim Elliott, director of flash memory marketing for Samsung Semiconductor.

Samsung's new 128GB SSD pales in comparison to BiTMICROs massive 832GB SSD which was recently announced. Samsung, however, has the advantage when it comes to availability and pricing. Samsung's 128GB SSD will be available in the first half of 2008 with pricing of at least a couple thousand dollars.

BiTMICRO's 832GB SSD, on the other hand, won't be mass produced until the latter half of 2008 and will likes cost tens of thousands of dollars.

NVIDIA today announced hybrid technology for PC platforms — Hybrid SLI — that addresses two critical issues: increasing graphics performance and reducing power consumption. NVIDIA Hybrid SLI technology will be incorporated into a wide variety of graphics and motherboard desktop and notebook products that the Company is rolling out for both AMD and Intel desktop and notebook computing platforms throughout 2008.

“From the introduction of programmable GPUs to the rapid adoption of our multi-GPU SLI technology, NVIDIA has repeatedly pioneered and innovated to solve difficult problems for the industry. We believe Hybrid SLI technology is one of the most important innovations we’ve come up with to date,” said Jen-Hsun Huang, CEO of NVIDIA. “Hybrid SLI delivers new multi-GPU technology to a large segment of the PC market, delivering consumers a level of PC graphics performance and power efficiency never before seen.”

First disclosed in June 2007, NVIDIA Hybrid SLI technology is based on the Company’s market-leading GeForce graphics processor units (GPUs) and SLI multi-GPU technology. Hybrid SLI enables NVIDIA motherboard GPUs (mGPUs) to work cooperatively with discrete NVIDIA GPUs (dGPUs) when paired in the same PC platform. Hybrid SLI provides two new technologies — GeForce Boost and HybridPower — that allow the PC to deliver graphics performance for today’s applications and games when 3D graphics horsepower is required, or transition to a lower-powered operating state when not.

I'm slowly developing a photo camera fetish .. so this caught my eye. Casio released the EX-F1 for the prosumer market. This six megapixel camera can shoot up to 60 photos per second and can record 300fps VGA movies. The camera can also shoot 1200fps 336 x 96 video but that resolution is probably a bit too small to be useful.

1080i and 720p video recording is also supported at 30fps. It will ship for $999.

All DDR3 modules operate at lower memory voltages to deliver better performance with the same amount of power when compared to DDR2. Dynamic I/O Signal Termination and On-die Dynamic Termination (ODT) reduce the reflective signals transmitted to standby RAMs, thereby enabling support for higher memory frequencies. A larger prefetch means more data is immediately available for the processor and the differential data strobe reduces noise while accessing data, especially at higher frequencies.

Corsair is supporting the industrys transition to DDR3 with a full line of highly-engineered memory solutions. Our partnerships with leading technology companies and suppliers have allowed us to be first-to-market with the worlds fastest production DDR3 memory and demonstrating our next generation DOMINATOR running at 2GHz, said Jack Peterson, VP of Marketing at Corsair. DDR3 memory technology brings scalability and features that DDR2 cannot deliver. The fact that we are able to realize 50% more memory speed rating at launch compared to the standard DDR3-1066 specification is simply stunning. continued Peterson.

Like their DDR2 brethren, DDR3 DOMINATOR and XMS3 DHX feature Corsairs patent-pending DHX technology - an innovative quad-layer heat sink design that optimizes memory performance and reliability by maximizing thermal dissipation. With DHX Technology, heat is removed via two paths the leads of the BGA chips into the PCB (convective cooling) and the back of the BGA packages into the custom designed extruded aluminum heat sinks (conductive cooling).

The enthusiast community demands solutions that push the envelope and are capable of delivering the highest level performance experience, and very fast DDR3 is the next step in delivering cutting-edge computing, said Steve R. Peterson, Director of Chipset & Graphics Marketing, Intel. We work closely with Corsair to help deliver a cutting edge experience for the enthusiast power user. Corsairs release of the new DDR3-1600 DOMINATOR memory, combined with an Intel P35 or X38 Express chipset based motherboard, plus an Intel Extreme Edition CPU, shows just how exciting platforms based on DDR3 will be.
